What is ISHTA Yoga:

ISHTA has a twofold meaning.  It is an acronym of Integrated Science of Hatha, Tantra, and Ayurveda.  It also means that which resonates with the spirit.

Hatha: From ‘ha / tha’ or ‘solar energy / lunar energy’ in Sanskrit, originated in the Tantric period. Hatha Yoga is the physical practice of asana, or yoga postures. Hatha also refers to the science of strengthening the weaknesses in an individual and removing the stress blockages in our systems.

Tantra: From the root words ‘tanoti,’ expansion, and ‘trayati,’ liberation. Tantra is the belief that our essential nature is divine, perfect as it is, part of the universal consciousness, and filled with bliss. The practice of Tantra increases our awareness of this state of total liberation through acceptance of ourselves and everything around us. Tantra gives us many tools to achieve the understanding of our true selves. In the ISHTA practice, we focus on asana, pranayama (breath work), kriya techniques and visualization meditation, as our primary tools.

Ayurveda: From the words ‘ayur’ which means ‘life’ and ‘veda’ which means ‘science.’ This ancient Indian tradition teaches that we each have a constitution, or prakriti, that is unique like our fingerprints. According to ayurvedic thought, the ideal practice begins with understanding the individual’s unique prakriti and their needs based on the interplay of that constitution with their current situation. For example, stress, injuries, or changes in life or work all impact what practice is ideal for you at a given moment. Ayurveda in the ISHTA practice encourages self-exploration and an awareness of the impact our circumstances have on our physical, emotional, and energetic states. We seek to understand how to best create balance in our lives and accept who we are.

Testimonials from past retreats:

“I’ve been doing Yoga with Aino for the last 5 years and her classes and private lessons have gotten me through some of the toughest times in my life. Aino’s back ground of dance shines through in her her poses and watching how beautifully she moves inspires me to be stronger, and move into the same poses more deeply. Her healing hands carry magic so her adjustments always feel like bolts of lightening that make there way up to my brain and reinforce me to relax and enjoy the moment even” more. The obvious thing to say about Aino would be how incredible she is as a teacher because she truly is incredible, But for me it’s the mindfulness she brings of making everyone feel at ease, no matter what age, strength or bendy factor you bring to class you will never be judged it’s not in her DNA. It’s rare to find that in today’s world in the purest form that Aino radiates. Her retreats are equally as divine as her classes with no detail left out. I’ve been on two now and look forward to the announcement of the next destination. Aino was born to do this. I feel privileged that I get to take her classes and have her care about my well being.. she is light she is love.”

-Claudia Drakes

“I attended Aino’s lovely yoga retreat in Tuscany. It was my first retreat, and I enjoyed it so much that I immediately asked her to hold a place for me on a retreat next year! The week was a combination of fantastic yoga classes, delicious & healthy food + optional excursions to explore the beautiful region. She puts a lot of thought into selecting retreat locations – our retreat center was fabulous! A couple of important notes: Aino is a very intuitive teacher so her classes & retreats are great for all levels. Also, she draws wonderful people so don’t hesitate to attend a retreat by yourself – our group was terrific, and we made new friends from around the globe.”

Meet Your Retreat Leaders:

Emma Bourke
International Yoga Teacher, Women’s Empowerment, Meditation & Pranayama

Her love of yoga took her to study in Rishikesh India where she completed her Yoga Teacher Training. She then moved to Hawaii where she worked at a yoga retreat center helping with management and teaching community classes. She then moved to Costa Rica to Blue Osa Yoga Retreat where she was a writer for their blog, taught yoga and assisted with teacher training.

Emma is passionate about yoga from a holistic point of view that goes beyond asana, incorporating meditation, pranayama and an overall yogic lifestyle. After enduring personal heartbreak she has experienced first hand the immeasurable benefits of yoga, and loves to share this with others. Off the mat she is a lover of the great outdoors her other passions include horse riding, scuba diving, hiking and skiing all around the world!

Julie Martin
Logistics Coordinator Explorations of Self, Yoga Instructor, Meditation Teacher, Transformation Coach, Marriage and Family Therapist

Julie is Yoga Instructor, Meditation teacher, and Transformation Coach with a passion for utilizing the body’s wisdom to heal emotional trauma and access the limitless source of inner peace and divine power that we all possess. Julie’s yoga journey began in 2001, when a friend encouraged her to join in a power yoga class to help supplement her vigorous competitive swimming workouts. She immediately realized that yoga was much more than a way to build physical strength and flexibility, but a key ingredient in developing a deeper connection with herself and learning to find a place of calm in the midst of chaos. After ten years of working in the mental health field, earning her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, and going through a period of personal tragedy, Julie found herself again turning to her yoga mat to access a source of healing that went much deeper than any modality she had been trained in as a therapist.

While it had always been a dream to one day treat clients in a retreat setting, it wasn’t until truly diving into a devoted yoga and meditation practice that she realized that the time was now to share the tools she had utilized to heal and transform her own life. After moving to Bali to help run a yoga ashram and retreat center, she set her sights on India, where she studied yoga and meditation in Rishikesh, on the banks of the Ganga river. Julie is a certified Trauma Informed Yoga Instructor, and utilizes a combination of Hatha, Restorative, Vinyasa, Yoga Nidra and guided meditation to help students to heal, grow, and transform.

Julie is a passionate teacher and healer with a serious travel addiction, and cannot wait to support you in your epic journey with us!

This was a great place for Yoga lovers, it’s magical. For surfers, it’s a dream come true. She went beyond and above , and was always there making sure we were taken care of. What a wonderful experience.”

– Lynne Roye

“Thanks to Caileigh’s nutrition support and exercise guidance I feel my healthiest EVER! When I began working with Caileigh, I was in chronic pain and my body was bloated. No doctor could help me. Now, after working with Caileigh, I am in my fourth month with nearly no pain, and my body is leaner and stronger and I feel more in touch with myself than ever. The best part is that it was all natural. I feel great and I can’t stop saying thank you for the lifestyle changes Caileigh helped me make. She’s simply the best!”

– Daniel Cabrera

Massage:

Present Moment’s invigorating massage therapies embrace exotic international techniques including Thai, Swedish, Accupuncture, Shiatsu and Shamanic Healing to make your vacation in paradise even more perfect. Our healing hands and aromatic oils loosen tight muscles, improve circulation, soothe the mind, nurture the spirit and promote a sense of well being. Luxuriate in the bliss of your muscles being kneaded as your tension slips away, to the point of ultimate liberation.

*Thai
Thai massage is believed to have been developed by Buddhist monks in Thailand as a healing modality 2,500 years ago. Thai massage uses passive stretching and gentle pressure along the body’s energy lines to increase flexibility, relieve muscle and joint tension and balance the body’s energy systems. Thai massage is both deeply relaxing and energizing. This form of bodywork is performed on the floor, and the client wears comfortable clothes that allow for movement. No oils are used. (Scroll down to watch a short video of Thai Massage in action!)

*Swedish
Swedish massage is the most common type of massage in the Western world, and the perfect match for a relaxing vacation. The primary goal of this massage technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. But this therapy goes beyond relaxation: Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, and improving circulation and flexibility, all while easing tension.

*Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a massage technique originating in ancient Japan; the name means “finger pressure.” The principles of the massage are based on the acupuncture points, and pressure is carefully applied to each point using the hands. The pressure stimulates and balances Meridians (the pathways through which life energy flows.) This natural system of energetic touch supports physical health, well being and personal development.

*Deep Tissue
A deep tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity (such as athletes), and patients who have sustained physical injury.
