Flow with the Present Moment | January 26, 2019

June 1, 2018 by Ryan

January 26- February 2, 2019 – Flow with the Present Moment Presented as the cooperation of Orsi Foldesi and Brianne McKenzie
Flow Yoga School

Present Moment’s very own yoga teacher and wellness practitioner Dr. Brianne McKenzie and her dear friend and teacher Orsi Foldesi, owner of Flow Yoga Studio in Campbell River, BC, are pleased to share with you a 7-day/7-night Yoga Retreat at Present Moment. This retreat is designed with the intention of providing a rich and nourishing body and soul experience in community in paradise.

With the main focus is Yoga in the sunshine, with 2+ classes a day, and several evening Satsang/Kirtan sessions if desired. While immersed in nature during your retreat, you will delight in some of the most fresh and delicious food in the world and of course, reconnect and rejuvenate. This retreat will allow you the opportunity to disconnect and simply rest, play in the ocean, or adventure into the wilderness on an epic locally guided tour, surf, explore the town by bicycle, take a dip in the local hot springs, or cleanse in an indigenous Temezcal. Simply enjoying a good book poolside is also available to you. Perhaps you would prefer to join in on a meditation class each morning, indulge in bi-weekly community acupuncture or receive body work from incredible healers. The cacao ceremony is an incredible experience, not to be missed, as well as sunset and sunrise walks on one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico. Troncones is a small resort-free, relatively underdeveloped seaside village nestled between the Sierra Madre mountains and Mexican Riviera with one of the top beaches in Mexico (and most quiet, there are not even any vendors!).

The leaders:

Orsi Foldesi Yoga School Director, Yoga Teacher

Orsi believes that the eight limbs of Yoga have the answers to most things in life. We don’t have to improve the system, we only have to improve ourselves to understand it more. Orsi love tradition, walking in the steps of millions of Yogis before her. It seems you and her have met at this point on the journey. It is a great honour. Orsi has been a holistic practitioner since 21. So, over 20 years now. Yoga entered her life at the age of 27. Living a highly driven life in the city of Budapest she started having environmental allergies, asthma, pains and aches, even panic attacks. Her fantastic family doctor recommended Yoga to her, instead of taking pills. She took her first class with great resistance… oh, how she wishes now that she started even sooner. There is an amazing Yoga studio in Toronto, called Downward Dog. They teach Ashtanga style Hatha yoga. The studio is situated on top of a restaurant on Queen Street, therefore the uprising warmth (and smells) always added some extra dimension to our practice. That is where she started loving the flow of motion in harmony with her breath, the sweat dripping off her body. That is where she learned to calm her mind and realized that every minute she spends on the mat will multiply the efficiency, focus, and health for the rest of her day. The effects of a 90 minute class lasted longer and longer, based on how often she practiced, so she became a regular practitioner and this has not changed in the last nearly 12 years.
Orsi has became a Bikram Yoga teacher in 2009 Palm Desert California and taught over 2000 Yoga classes since. She has taken multiple teacher trainings and many additional courses. The learning will never end. Even though at the studio their primary focus is Yoga Asana; meditation, chanting, healthy diet, cleansing, and other aspects of Yoga are also part of who she is. She bases her life on the foundational principals of Yoga, the Yamas and Niyamas.
In her Yoga School they educate about Yoga, they don’t just exercise. Her dream is to restore the reputation of this ancient system, by raising the bar to all Practitioners and Teachers leaving the trainings she directs. Can you image one day, there might be a Yoga University we can take! So, this strangely entangled an “industry” might rise to it’s deserved glory and lead humanity to peace.
Orsi’s home base is on the beautiful Vancouver Island in Campbell River, Canada. Or as we call it: Paradise… Wish you all the benefits she has gained through this journey and more. In case you wish to reach Orsi: orsi.yoga@gmail.com

Brianne McKenzie Chiropractic doctor,
Yoga teacher

“Bri”, is a Campbell River, BC, Canada native, currently residing in the beautiful paradise of Troncones, Mexico. The seed syllable Bri in Sanskit, meaning Brahman (the transcendent and immanent ultimate reality or Supreme Cosmic Spirit).
A Buddhist-inspired yogic practitioner of 12 years and a teacher for five, studying most recently with Sharon Gannon of Jivamukti yoga in India and with CJ Ananda Page of Kula Collective in Mexico in Peru. Her classes are alignment-based with a heavy emphasis on sound biomechanics and therapeutic practice, pulling inspiration from her Kinstretch/FRC training with some of the best movement specialists in the world. She loves to play the harmonium and incorporate mantra in her classes and uses an eclectic array of uplifting music. Bri guides her students with a lighthearted attitude and her own unique humor, with encouragement to maintain a disciplined and dedicated practice where self-perceived limitations can be explored and Yoga can be cultivated and taken off the mat.
Bri believes the greatest fruit of her practice has been the realization that practicing all aspects of Yoga has the ability to demonstrate where we as human beings are resisting our natural state of interconnectedness and thus, Joy. It is her greatest passion to guide her students to unravel this powerful understanding, transforming and enhancing their own unique quality of Being. Working with plant medicine and a Near-Death Experience in the Amazon in April 2015 has also deeply supported her purpose in her work.
She began to sincerely dedicate her life to self-healing and the healing journey of others during her eight years spent in academia, some of which she spent playing varsity women’s soccer at Vancouver Island University. She went on to obtain a Doctorate of Chiropractic from The Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto as well as a Biomedical Neurofunctional Electroacupuncture certification from McMaster University in Hamilton in 2014. Her focus during her two internships consisted of working with athletes and the general multi-cultural population of Toronto. She also worked with the First Nations population in a multidisciplinary clinic in an extremely rundown community in downtown Toronto, working with individuals with chronic pain and a myriad of psychosocial issues complicated by intergeneration harms. In addition, she had the opportunity to provide care in a clinic with adults and children with severe physical and cognitive disabilities.
Upon graduation from her doctorate program and yoga teacher training, she taught yoga at two studios in Campbell River (Flow Yoga Studio and Ocean Mountain Yoga) and simultaneously began her own Chiropractic Practice on Vancouver Island, Canada. She also created a Concussion Management Company where she educated youth and adult athletes within the community about mild traumatic brain injuries and return-to-play, while implementing baseline concussion testing in several sports associations.
In January 2016, she felt called to return to Troncones, Mexico to join the Present Moment Wellness Team as a yoga teacher, retreat facilitator and healer, inspired by the freedom to create a multi-modality healing practice that was profoundly heart-centered and rooted in science. Bri believes in the importance of educating those she works with and also offers Reiki and provides wellness consulting/cleanses for the guests at Present Moment. She also works as a consultant for the Medical-Legal Company NYRC in Vancouver, BC.
Dr. McKenzie is an animal-lover who enjoys dedicating time to Sadhana and Svādhyāya. She has traveled all over the world, soul-o journeying and studying with an array of healers. She is currently in the process of building the Mountain Medicine Retreat Center in the majestic Zirahuen, Mexico with her fiancé Taylor, to provide healing and yoga offerings. She will begin to facilitate yoga teacher trainings in the near future, already having taught the Anatomy and Physiology component for the Kula Collective. She also plans to further her Ashtanga practice in Mysore in 2019.
